![]() ![]() You can JBOD different sized disks but you get zero redundancy and if 1 drive fails you lose the lot. Always best to to match drives where possible. if you had a 14TB 7200rmp drive and wanted to RAID 1 it with a 10TB 5400rpm drive, you would get 10TB of storage at 5400rpm. RAID defaults to the lowest common denominator when it comes to drive capacity and speed. If you can buy another 14TB drive, that would be best. Other RAID solutions tend to format so you would lose your data unless you can offload to to another disk whilst the array is being created. I think you need to convert the disk(s) to dynamic disks then create a new mirrored volume. ![]() Hi buddy, its been a while but I think Windows's software RAID solution can attempt to keep your files during the setup process. How can I set up RAID 1 if I already have 4TB of files on the drive? I don't have any other HDD available for me to move the data from one drive to the other temporarily. Is it possible to RAID 1 an existing drive? Do I need to use the same 14TB drive or can I buy a different 12TB or 16TB drive? My drive is shucked from an external enclosure so even if I buy a 14TB, I wouldn't get the exact same drive. The data on the HDD isn't that important but it would suck if I lost my music, photos, and videos I accumulated. I have an existing Western Digital 14TB HDD and I'm thinking of buying a second one so I can RAID 1.
